Our community––the TLAM family––lost an amazing person last week. Megann Schmitt, a UW-Madison SLIS student, left us on Tuesday. Over the last two years, she’s been very involved with TLAM, especially with Red Cliff and their new library. We traveled and presented together. We discussed the importance of place and relationships. (Her place was the Pacific Northwest.) She was passionate about libraries, community, and social justice––and absolutely committed to meaningful partnerships and caring for others. Her passing is a tremendous loss. Prayers and offerings have been made across the region by those she touched. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts.

SLIS will host three UHS group counseling sessions this week.

  • Tuesday Aug 9th, 9-10:30 am SLIS conference room 4246 HC White (led by University Health Services)
  • Tuesday Aug 9th, 2-3:30 pm SLIS conference room 4246 HC White (led by the Employee Assistance Office)
  • Thursday Aug 11th, 3-4:30 pm SLIS conference room 4246 HC White(led by University Health Services)

A UW-Madison memorial is being planned for September.

Below are some photos from her work with TLAM and Convening Great Lakes Culture Keepers, as well as a notice prepared by the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.

Miigwech ji-gikinoo’amawiyaang Megann. Thank you, Megann, for teaching us.
