The kickoff mini-conference, hosted by the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin’s Cultural Heritage Department, occurred on October 1-2, 2010, and featured presentations from two national leaders in library services to indigenous populations:
- Loriene Roy: Tribal Libraries/Archives/Museums: High Points and Opportunities. Roy is a past-president of the American Library Association and professor at the University of Texas, Austin.
- Alison Freese: IMLS Native American Basic and Enhancement Grant Fundamentals, followed by Listening/Consultation Session. Freese is the Senior Program Officer for Native American Library Services at the federal Institute of museum and Library Services.
Twenty-three representatives from six American Indian nations perused cultural displays and participated in a group planning session that identified and prioritized future mini-conference topics and formation.
